Capital, credit and corporate advisory

By the time a rating committee meets, most of the outcome has already been decided by the quality of the submission. A pre-rating diagnostic is a rehearsal: it reads your business the way the methodology will, while there is still time to act on what it finds.

Financial strength and trend

Leverage, debt service coverage, liquidity and profitability are reviewed not only as numbers but as trends. A ratio that is acceptable and improving reads very differently from the same ratio and deteriorating. Diagnostics also check whether reported figures are presented consistently across years, as inconsistencies raise questions that take time to answer.

Business and industry risk

Committees look at the stability of your revenues and the risks around them: dependence on a few customers or suppliers, cyclicality, order-book visibility, regulatory exposure and your position in the industry. These factors often explain why two companies with similar ratios receive different outcomes.

Liquidity and repayment conduct

Utilisation of working capital limits, the timeliness of repayments and the availability of undrawn limits all signal how comfortable the business is. A strong profit and loss statement can be undermined by constant full utilisation of bank limits.

Management and governance

Track record, quality of disclosures, related-party dealings, promoter support and succession planning are part of the assessment. Clear, timely information is itself a positive signal.

What to do with the findings

  • Close avoidable gaps in documentation and presentation before submission.
  • Prepare clear explanations for weaknesses that cannot be removed.
  • Sequence actions, such as debt repayment or fresh equity, so their effect is visible in the numbers that will be assessed.
  • Brief management on the questions most likely to be asked.

A diagnostic does not change the rating committee's independence. It ensures that the committee sees the strongest accurate version of your business.
